The last things…

More than two weeks have already passed since I’m back in Switzerland. Somehow the journey is already far away. But somehow also not. Especially not, if I hear from the earthquakes which are still going on and the difficult situation a lot of people face. The support of all of us is still needed. Thank you for your support!

I would like to tell you a last story from this journey. Because my bike box was too big to be transported from the airport to the place I stayed in Santiago, I had to leave it at the airport in storage. For four days I had to pay 40 USD. And because the box got damaged on the flight from Ushuaia to Santiago, I had to repair it by using a whole role of plastic wrapper :-). Anyway, when I was back at the check-in desk for flying home, my pulse was raising again. How would it go this time?

First the small box with my bike hanger was too heavy (25kg which was a bit too much). However, it passed. After this the bike, which was 36kg and definitively too heavy. This was a problem and the boss got called. He checked a few things in his papers and asked me, if there was only the bike in this box. I said yes (which was half true) because I didn’t have any wrapping material left to repack the whole thing. So it was kind of a white lie, I would say. He checked further his papers and said finally, that the system didn’t allow heavier luggage than 32kg. I would have to pay a fee of 100 USD therefore. Because this was much cheaper than on the way to South America (300 USD), I was quite happy :-). I paid the fee, went through security and sat down.

After two movies, several series and multiple pod casts, I finally reached Zurich again. There I was waiting for my luggage, which didn’t arrive. However, because I was on my journey back, I didn’t really care. It wouldn’t have been that funny on the way to South America, though…
The luggage finally arrived two days later. Despite the big hole in the box, I didn’t miss anything. (Remark: Some time later, I discovery that my sleeping bag was missing. Either I have forgotten it in the hostel in Santiago or it fell out of the box on the way to Zurich. Anyway, who every has it today: Enjoy!)

So that’s it! However, it won’t be my last cycling journey, i think. Who is coming with the next time?

All the best and thank you for reading,

Stefan

Eine Velokette lassen Sie durch aber den Nagelknipser nehmen sie weg – sehr konsequent 🙂 Nun ja, die Swissair hatte ja auch Eispickel in der Küche während es nur Plastikbesteck gab….
