After reaching the most southern city on the South American continent, I moved on towards Ushuaia and reached on Sunday evening Rio Grande (AR).
\nI did not take the standard path through San Sebastion but went through Onaisis – Cameron – Rio Grande – Radman (Border) – Rio Grande (AR) instead. Border crossing in Radman is no problem but there is a river to cross just before the Argentinian border control. The river is between 10-15m wide and between half a meter and 1m deep depending on the weather and the river flow. Crossing by foot should be possible but the water is very cold. I suggest to wait for a car which is crossing too but this can take a long time, especially if you are coming from the Chilenian side. It seems to be by far more commen that cars from the Argentina side are crossing instead the other way. I was lucky that an unlucky Argentinian family got stuck with their SUV in the middle of the river and the Argentinian border control had to help them to get out again. And I asked those guys of course, if they could give me a lift which luckily worked out :-).<\/p>\n
If you are going this path, make sure that you have enough water with you. Lakes and flows are very muddy in this area. And yes, there is wind, a lot of wind actually… Most from the west but also from the east is possible.
\nOtherwise: Enjoy! There are not many people in this area and also not a lot of traffic. I felt kind of lonely during that time… But there are a lot of Guanacos ;-).<\/p>\n
