Salmon

Already when I arrived in Puerto Montt and was on my bike on the way towards Chiloe, I got aware of this strong smell: Fish. On the way to the campsite in Panitao, I also saw on the street in form of fish heads and tails, where this smell was coming from: Salmon or it left overs. The area south of Puerto Montt including the island of Chiloe is the Salmon-Eldorado of Chile. Or maybe I should say, it was. […]

It’s getting better again

First the bad news: I couldn’t take the ferry on Friday evening. But there is some good news too: after two days with only two pieces of white bread, two bananas, 2 litres of isotonic drinks and a half litre of orange juice, I’m doing better again. Not yet complettely healthy but at least can keep the food so far without having stomach ache… And this especially because of the appropriate medication and professional remote medicin :-). Because I do […]

Stomach issues

It was actually the plan to take the ferry today from Quellon to Chaiten. However, this is not going to happen. Major stomach issue force me to change plans again. I will stay in Quellon till my stomach is stable again and will then go by bus back to Puerto Montt to take the ferry from there to Chaiten. I hope this is going to happen on Monday. Natasha Young wrote in here blog that Puerto Montt is one of […]

Chiloe

Because I’m using a very slow computer at the moment, only a short update for now. After climbing the volcano Villarrica, I took the Bus to Puerto Montt. From there a cycled something like 20km to a nicely situated but completely empty campsite in Panitao. Like camping in the wild but with the advantage of a real toilett ;-). On Friday I cycled further to the city of Ancud on the Chiloe island. And because I missed a crossroad, it […]

Done! :-)

Today, I finally made it to the top of the Volcano Villarrica. And we had great weather :-). Following a few impressions from the trip. View from the summit. On the left side the complettely with smoke filled crater. And then we slided down the slope on our butt. Tomorrow I will take the bus to Puerto Montt and really start biking. All the best from Villarrica, Stefan

Villarrica

I was actually planning to cycle to Meulipeuco and to the Llaima volcano. However, because of some technical problems and because of not getting as far in a day as thought, I decided to go to Villarrica instead. After a heavy, long ride in very warm weather I reached the border of Lago Villarrica with the same named volcano and city: So my next target is to get on top of this volcano which is probably going to be on […]
